So, you’re looking for some Icons for your next website, but don’t want to commit to any design just yet – use Cambelt! I’ve added the ability to generate icons as well as simple image placeholders. The range is currently a little bit limited, but I’ll be adding to it all the time.

Cambelt is a placeholder image service, but because it allows you to customise the font, font sizes and colours – it can go a little further than most. All the files are cached for your users, so once downloaded they are very fast to display in future. The infrastructure runs on Amazon AWS – and uses New Relic for monitoring the servers. The app runs along at rapid speed – with average response times for the application at around 0.5ms – so using Cambelt won’t slow your website down!

Finally – I’m about to introduce some new features for Cambelt. Soon you’ll be able to register websites with Cambelt, and save default settings for them, so you don’t need to supply long querystrings with your images, just say “/image/name” instead and have the right image returned to you! This will also allow you to upload and use custom fonts for your own images, and have the resulting files only served to websites that you authorize – to help with licensing of fonts!
